Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) International Scholarship Programme

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) International Scholarship Programme, funded by the German Federal Foreign Office, supports talented international students and doctoral candidates from non-EU countries who wish to study or research at a German higher education institution. Linked to Germany's Christian-democratic political tradition, the foundation looks beyond academic results alone, seeking candidates who combine strong grades with civic engagement, leadership potential, and a demonstrated commitment to democracy, the rule of law, and human rights. Bachelor's and Master's scholars receive a monthly stipend of EUR 992, while doctoral candidates receive EUR 1,400 per month, alongside health and long-term care insurance contributions, a family allowance for accompanying spouses, a child allowance, and in exceptional cases a partial tuition reimbursement of up to EUR 750 per semester. Funding runs for up to two years for Bachelor's and Master's students and up to three years for doctoral candidates, renewable based on academic progress. Beyond the financial package, KAS scholars join an active Network of International Scholars offering seminars on political, economic, and cultural developments, personal academic mentoring, and university group activities. Bachelor's applicants must have completed at least their second semester; Master's and PhD applicants need a completed first degree. Good to excellent academic standing, B2-level German proficiency, and a track record of voluntary or civic engagement are required. The domestic German selection procedure deadline for 2026 is 15 July at 12:00 noon CET, with regional selection processes also running through KAS offices abroad, including Nairobi and Buenos Aires.
